Great Start!

Hi!

One of the first things you will want to do is to "protect" the main page, once you have built templates to fill in the information. Main pages are the first places to get hit by vandals, because they really are looking for a chance to experiment with how easy it is to edit. And since there's this edit button right there on the screen...

You may want to leave the templates available to be edited. That will allow non-admins to add information to the front page, which will take the strain off your limited number of admins, while still making it difficult for people not familiar with the system to vandalize it.

Thank you!

Amgine, thank you for all your help and advices! I really appreciate it. To respond to your suggestions: the main page is already locked, as well as are the templates. Besides me, Bala and Neha also can act as WikySysop, so if there's any urgent need to change these pages, someone will be, hopefully :), available to do it. However, you're right - I'll unprotect the template controlling the text in the home page, to leave people the possibility of adding content.

Could you please point me to a page where is clearly explained how to restore a previous version of a page by using History? Thanks so much!

And I'm a little bit lost on how I could make the intermap links work in order to link to WikiNews...

Okay, I don't know of a page on how to restore a previous version using History, so I will explain it here.
When you click on the history link, you will have a listing of all changes which have been made to the article, ordered by datestamp. Each datestamp links directly to that version. If you click on a date stamp and bring up the old version, then click the edit button, edit the summary (to something like "revert to Amgine's version - anonymous vandalism"), and save it you will have reverted the article to the old version.
I hope that was clear enough.
The interwiki links are a bit more complex. Some of the default links distributed with mediawiki include commons, meta, and wikipedia. For Wikinews, you will have to add one to the MySQL table. If you give me about an hour I will be able to post an explanation of the process, but if you're familiar with MySQL you will be able to figure it out on your own.
You're doing a great job here! Thanks!

Adminship

Hi! I set up Tsunamihelp:Administrator's board to help admins communicate with each other as issues come up.

Thanks! So, were do we discuss GFDL vs public domain? :) - WikiSysop 03:33 GMT, 6 Jan 2005
Well, I just built a bunch of pages, including Tsunamihelp:Copyright policy (which I will be moving in a minute or so, but there will be a redirect. Also see Tsunamihelp:Policies and guidelines Which includes some stuff I made up off the top of my head that really needs to be checked out by your people. - Amgine 06:01, 6 Jan 2005 (CET)

Just as a guideline; it's usually best to use a regular admin account, rather than the WikiSysop account, for jobs which do not require the WikiSysop. That way you know who did what when (when the WikiSysop account is shared), and so people don't start bugging you as soon as they see you've made an edit on the Recent changes. - Amgine
