Tsunamihelp:Policies and guidelines

Tsunami Help is

Goal statement

Tsunami has some policies and guidelines which help us as we work toward that commone goal. Most of these policies are still developing, most are simply common sense, and all are here to help us help those in need.

Key policies

You don't need to read every policy before you help out! However, these are some of the central ideas on which this project depends:

  1. We are trying to help.
  2. Respect other contributors and yourself. Volunteers come from many different backgrounds, and may have widely differing views of who they are and what they are doing. Being respectful of others is absolutely vital for us all to get along, and to provide aid to those who need it.
  3. Do not infringe copyrights. Submitting work which infringes copyright may threaten our goal of helping others.
  4. Avoid expanding the project. We have specific goals, and we do not intend to expand beyond them. See Tsunamihelp:What Tsunami Help is not for a discussion of what Tsunami Help is not planning to do or become.

How are policies created?

Tsunami Help policies are primarily developed through consensus. People who notice an issue which needs to be addressed discuss possible solutions, or may establish a practice to deal with it. In many cases these policies might not be written down, or not written down formally yet. Many policies you might find here are simply writing down the way things are already being done.

How are policies enforced?

You do it. There is no "boss", so if you see a problem you need to either deal with it yourself, or ask someone with more experience how to do it. A good place to ask is the Tsunamihelp:Community portal.

There are a few things which are best left to very experienced editors, commonly called admins. Admins have some extra functions, and responsibilities, for dealing with vandalism.
